In our search for the world’s tastiest coconut, we explored every corner of Southeast Asia, eventually arriving in Ratchaburi, Thailand, where we discovered the extraordinary Nam Hom coconut.
Not only does the local blend of water and soil help to nurture an intense and unique sweetness in the fruit which was unlike anything we had ever tasted, what really made us fall in love with these young, green coconuts was the way they are lovingly grown and expertly harvested by local farmers who are immensely proud of their produce.
In this peaceful setting, canals run alongside the coconut groves where other native species of wildlife also make their homes, all of them inadvertently helping to provide the Nam Hom coconut with its unique aroma.
Our farmers would never expose their crops to destructive chemical or synthetic pesticides. Instead, they enlist the help of predator insects to prevent the potentially harmful parasites from spoiling their crop.
The native fish that inhabit the rivers play an essential part in fertilising the soil. Chickens roam freely around the coconut farm, providing natural fertilization for the soil.
Aged coconut husks that have already experienced a happy, healthy life help to enrich the soil, allowing new, young coconuts to grow and thereby completing the coconut’s circle of life.
